SONOMA PLEIN AIR EVENT; May 4-9, 2009
This spring, I was accepted to participate in the highly regarded Sonoma Plein Air painting event.
Artists from all over the country gathered ready to paint the rich variety of sunny Sonoma County, CA, but instead got three out of five days of rain; unheard of this time of year. Painting indoors, I got a few pictures I liked, such as this one of the Sonoma Mission church.

The clouds did part occasionally late in the afternoon. I had forty-five minutes between downpour and sunset to paint this rough sketch of the theater on Sonoma Square.

Later, I worked on a derivation of this painting in my studio; a good illustration of the difference between ”plein air” and studio painting.
